We had our original 1950’s parquet flooring, which was unsalvageable, replaced in our living room and office. This was a large and complicated job. Marc was highly responsive right from the start. We have oak plank floors in the ground floor of our house, most are covered by carpet but the hallway (~ 16 sqM) is exposed and was looking rather the worse for wear. Previous DIY attempts to renovate it were not a success and it had become very tatty. Marc came and in 3 days refurbished it to a thing of beauty. He was pleasant to have in the house, cheerful, very professional and carried out the work with minimum of disruption and with the modern quality machinery it was dust free. We were most impressed and would highly recommend him to anyone needing floor restoration.

We have herringbone parquet flooring in our living room, music room and dining room which needed to be sanded and lacquered. I would like to recommend that Marc Barnes of Wood Floors by Design. He installed a solid oak floor at our house recently to a very high standard and kept all his promises about submitting a quote and when he would carry out the work.

Professionalism - he was very professional and business like in his general dealings, giving us firm quotations and dates for doing the work. He turned up on time and worked consistently throughout the period he was here.
Integrity - he was fair and honest in his dealings, did not ask for advance payment or vary the price and we felt confident in leaving him in the house alone.
Standard of work - above all, Marc's standard of work was exemplary. He initially sanded one of our house's original floors and brought up the pine boards to a standard that I did not think was possible. A very flat, clean and bright surface, with the figuring from the timber brought out clearly. As a result of this work, we asked him to come back and restore another maple floor in the house and, again, this was brought back to a beautifully consistent surface. Marc charges a fair price, which may seem expensive compared with some competitors. However, he uses good equipment, which is practically dust free, is able to get into all the corners and edges without damaging the skirtings etc and produces an excellent finish. Overall, this is well worth the cost of the work and several people, including professional floor layers, have commented on the high quality of the work and have asked for his card.
